Poet Laureate bill re-introduced post-prorogue by MPP Percy Hatfield

March 21, 2018  QUEEN'S PARK - Today in the Ontario legislature, MPP Percy Hatfield re-introduced his bill to establish a Poet Laureate for Ontario for the third time.

The bill had been at committee level and looking promising just before the government prorogued on March 15, 2018.  With the agenda re-set, MPP Hatfield re-introduced the bill with this brief description:  "The bill establishes the office of the Poet Laureate of Ontario in memory of Gord Downie. The qualifications and selection process for the Poet Laureate are set out. The responsibilities of the Poet Laureate include promoting art and literacy, celebrating Ontario and its people, and raising the profile of Ontario poets.".

The Bill will be titled, 'Bill 13, An Act to establish the Poet Laureate of Ontario in memory of Gord Downie, 2018".  A debate date has not been set.
