NDP MPPs stand in solidarity with the LGBTQIA2S+ community in Windsor-Essex

Published on February 26, 2021

WINDSOR-ESSEX — MPPs Percy Hatfield (Windsor-Tecumseh), Lisa Gretzky (Windsor West), and Taras Natyshak (Essex) have released a statement in response to the recent string of hate crimes targeting the LGBTQIA2S+ community:

“The Windsor-Essex Transgender and Allied Support Centre supports individuals who are questioning their gender identity or who identify as part of the queer and trans community. Additionally, they provide educational resources for families, friends, and allies who want to learn how to best support their loved ones throughout their journey.  Our community has been made better because of the contributions, support, and inclusivity that W.E. Trans Support provides.

Over the past 10 days, the W.E. Trans Support has been the victim of targeted transphobic, homophobic, and racist acts of vandalism. We, as a community, must condemn these vile acts. Windsor-Essex is a loving, accepting region, and hatred and violence have no place in our community. These attacks are not representative of the broader community.

No one should feel unsafe.  As the local MPPs, we stand in solidarity with our LGBTQIA2S+ community, and are committed to continuing to work towards a society that is more inclusive, and ensures that nobody feels threatened or intimidated because of who they are.”
